Quick, colorful guide to starting your device

Starting Up Your Device — Trezor.io/Start

Welcome! This friendly guide walks you through unboxing, setting up, and securing your Trezor hardware wallet. Follow these clear steps, confirm actions on-device, and you'll be ready to manage crypto safely in minutes.

1 — Unbox & Inspect

Begin by unboxing your Trezor device. Check for tamper-evident seals and ensure packaging looks intact. Keep the box and accessories; they include your device, a USB cable, and quick-start material.

2 — Visit Trezor.io/Start

Open a browser and go to Trezor.io/Start. We always recommend using the official site to download Suite or follow the on-screen setup wizard. Never follow links from unsolicited emails or messages.

3 — Connect Your Device

Plug your Trezor into a computer using the supplied USB cable. Allow the browser or Suite app to detect the device. Your computer and browser may prompt for permission to communicate with the hardware—this is normal.

4 — Initialize: Create PIN & Recovery Seed

Follow instructions to set a secure PIN directly on your Trezor. Next, generate the recovery seed (usually 12, 18, or 24 words). Write this seed on the included card — never photograph or store it digitally. The seed is the only way to recover funds if the device is lost.

5 — Verify Your Seed & Device

After writing your seed, you’ll be asked to confirm words. Confirm them carefully. Also check the firmware and model displayed on the device; Suite shows firmware authenticity and signed release information for extra assurance.

6 — Create Accounts & Explore

Create named accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported assets in Suite. Explore the dashboard: balances, recent transactions, portfolio charts, and labels. Use watch-only mode for addresses you want to monitor without signing transactions.

7 — Make a Small Test Transaction

Before moving large sums, send a small test amount to and from your Trezor. Confirm addresses and amounts on-device each time. This practical step confirms your setup works and helps you learn the process safely.

8 — Enable Advanced Protections (Optional)

Consider adding a passphrase (a secret word or phrase that creates hidden accounts) for extra isolation, or use a multi-sig setup with other hardware wallets. These options provide stronger protection for high-value holdings.

Best Practices & Quick Tips

  • Never share your recovery seed with anyone.
  • Always verify transaction details on the device screen.
  • Keep firmware up to date via the official Suite only.
  • Store seeds in multiple secure physical locations if needed.
  • Beware of phishing: type Trezor.io manually.
  • Use passphrases carefully—loss of the passphrase means loss of funds.
  • Label important addresses to prevent mistakes.
